Murillo-Moncada disappeared in late November 2009 from his home in Council Bluffs, Iowa. His family suspected that his behavior may have been influenced by medication he was taking at the time. Despite filing a missing persons report and an extensive search by law enforcement, there were no solid leads, and his whereabouts remained unknown for years.
