How Former Teen Killer William Izett’s Auckland Car Theft Could Lead to life sentence.
William Frederick Izett, now 32, once made headlines as a teenage killer—convicted for the violent death of an elderly man when he was just 16. A decade later, he was again in the spotlight for the stabbing of a stranger. Now, he’s facing the possibility of life imprisonment following yet another serious crime in Auckland.
In 2024, police raided Izett’s home in Dairy Flat as part of a stolen vehicle investigation. They found a $64,000 stolen Ford Ranger—but that was only the beginning.
A loaded AK-47-style firearm,
And powerful commercial explosives used typically in mining or demolition.
Izett, described in court as a long-time heroin supplier, has lived a life “punctuated by significant periods of imprisonment.” His latest charges include:
Possession of class A drugs for supply,
Unlawful possession of a prohibited firearm,
Unlawful possession of explosives,
And theft of a motor vehicle.
Prosecutors are pushing for a life sentence under New Zealand’s “three strikes” law due to the serious nature and repeated pattern of his crimes.
He is currently remanded in custody and awaiting sentencing.
