Total oil liquids production is now up to a record 21 million barrels per day in the US.
This marks +50% growth in daily production over the last 4 years.
In the first 5 months of 2025, US total petroleum output averaged 20.5 million barrels a day, up from ~19.8 million during the same period in 2024.
This is all despite the number of active fracking crews performing hydraulic fracturing having almost halved since 2022, to 163, a 5-year low.
Shale producers are achieving this by drilling wells faster, extending their reach deeper into rock formations, and cutting costs.
The US is the world’s largest oil producer.
