WASHINGTON (WISH) — A 50-year-old Lafayette, Indiana, woman has been arrested after, federal authorities say, she made threats on social media to kill President Donald Trump.
Nathalie Rose Jones was arrested Saturday, said a news release issued Monday from the U.S. District Court in the District of Columbia.
Jones could face federal charges for threatening to take the life of, kidnap, or inflict bodily harm upon the president of the United States. The charges also include transmitting threats in interstate commerce.
According to court documents, Jones used the Instagram account “nath.jones” to post threatening comments about Trump from Aug. 2-9. She labeled Trump as a terrorist and accused his administration of causing unnecessary death during the coronavirus pandemic.
On Facebook, under the account “Nath.Jones,” she allegedly continued to make threats, including a post on Aug. 6 where she expressed willingness to “sacrificially kill” Trump.
The U.S. Secret Service interviewed Jones on Friday and Saturday. She admitted to making threats but denied any desire to harm the president.
Jones on Saturday participated in a protest demonstration at Dupont Circle, which ended near the White House. That’s where she was arrested.
Jeanine Ferris Pirro was confirmed Aug. 2 as the U.S. attorney for D.C. She issued a statement in the release.
“Threatening the life of the President is one of the most serious crimes and one that will be met with swift and unwavering prosecution. Make no mistake — justice will be served.”
