NEW: A baby was delivered via C-section just 30 minutes after her mother was shot in the head during a road rage incident in Louisiana.
Seventeen-year-old Katelynn Strate was shot in the head north of New Orleans.
She was immediately taken to the hospital and placed on life support so doctors could perform a C-section to save her daughter.
The baby was born two months premature, weighing 3 pounds, 11 ounces.
As reported on GoFundMe, Strate has since died.
Fifty-four-year-old Barry West was arrested and is accused of firing from his pickup truck, with the bullet hitting Strate’s head.
West claimed to police that he believed Strate and her boyfriend shot at him first; however, authorities found no evidence supporting that assertion.
West faces charges of attempted second-degree m*rder, which may be elevated.
